The answer isn't your mindset.

  1. Bad Body Image. Body image happens to be the one issue that is the closest to “universal” with over 90 percent of the participants (in one specific study) experiencing shame about their bodies. Body image also serves as an invisible thread that runs through almost all of the ten shame categories. In fact, body shame is so powerful and often so deeply rooted in our psyche that it actually transcends the appearance category and impacts why and how we feel shame in many of the other categories including: identity, appearance, sexuality, motherhood, parenting, health, aging and a women’s ability to speak out with confidence. What we think, hate, loathe and wonder about the acceptability of our bodies reaches much further and impacts far more than our appearance. The long reach of body shame can impact who and how we love, work, parent, communicate and build relationships.”-Brene Brown.
We are always complaining about our bodies!
I am too tall, too fat, too thin, or too short. Our hair is too thin, too
straight, too kinky, or too curly. Rarely do we hear someone say, “My
body is fabulous!” “My body is beautiful.” “My body works.” “My
body takes me through life.” Body image is the way you see yourself
and imagine how you look. Having a positive body image means that,
most of the time, you see yourself accurately, you feel comfortable in
your body, and you feel good about the way you look. The image we
see in the mirror may be a real or distorted view of who we are. Based
on this view, we create either a positive or a negative self-image. Self-
image is important because how we think about ourselves affects how
we feel about ourselves and how we interact with the world around us.
A positive self-image can enhance our physical, mental, social,
emotional, and spiritual well-being. Conversely, a negative self-image
can decrease our satisfaction and ability to function in these areas.
These both effect our presence and how we show up when speaking or
working with clients and customers.

How are your body image issues effecting your sales?

Want to know a well kept secret? How you feel about your
body is how you feel about yourself. Everybody sees everything about
us, whether we know it or not...whether we want them to or not. Our
bodies are the vehicles for our being here in this life, in this world. Why
do we leave ourselves all of the time?! Why do we neglect and abuse
ourselves? Would you treat your children or your best friend the way
you treat your body?

In my 30 years of showing people how to have massive breakthroughs in their lives, the secret I have discovered is this: The FASTEST path to the love you want and the money you deserve runs right through your body.  Tired of dead-end relationships?  The answer is in your body.  Wonder why every career you choose ends up being just blah or your efforts to build a thriving business never get you where you want to be?  Your body will tell you why you are stuck.

If you've been struggling with the same self-sabotaging behaviors keeping you from the things you yearn for:  the answer isn't just in your attitudes...OR your mindset...it's in your body.  What if you learned how to heal your relationship with yourself and your body...in all ways, on levels you didn't even know were possible...what would you give to have this for yourself?

There's a saying "Ready, Willing and Able."  Lots of people are ready, everyone is able, NOT everyone is willing.  Are you willing to do what it takes to have what you want?

Your posture tells everyone all of the time everything about you!

  1. Poor Posture.

Here's the deal, People see poor posture and unconsciously see poor self-esteem. Here's another truth, most people have no idea that they have bad posture! Truth!

Want to know how you can tell? Here's a simple test: Sit up tall, head over chest over pelvis. Allow the bottom pointy ends of your shoulder blades to pull back and down. Don't FORCE them, allow them to slide back and down. Hold this for a few minutes. Are the muscles in the lower part of your upper back getting tired? Are the muscles in your chest hurting or feeling tight? That's a sure sign that you have poor posture.

Positioning our bodies a certain way doesn’t just tell people we’re powerful, it actually makes us more powerful. Standing tall and open with connected, strong body postures/ movements directly influences our biochemistry. They increase testosterone, decrease cortisol, and generally make us feel amazing, as well as grounding us and dropping us into our bodies. For example, I teach my clients to engage the muscles that support the bottom pointy ends of their shoulder blades and pull them down and together. This, in turn, opens the heart center and creates true confidence! I call these muscles the Confidence Muscles. Learn how to deeply connect with your body and yourself and you will change your life.

Again, Open vs. Closed Body Postures and Movements are a dead give away of how Confident we are in ourselves. Rewiring this brain-body connection for yourself is the key to Captivating PresenceTM and Embodied ConfidenceTM that shines through in every situation. Everything is magnified when you are speaking to audiences and this is what will make or break your performance onstage.

Speaking of power, most people do not own their own personal power. If I can be brutally honest, most people (especially women) have no idea what this is, feels like or even means! Do you want to know what my download was that helped me get (in every fiber of my being) what personal power is? Yes or yes?

Personal Power-internal direction with the absence of outside forces. Boom. Know what you know. Own it. Listen to it, Implement and BE it. Period. Everything you think and feel and are shows up in your body. So slide back those shoulder blades and stretch out. Move like a badass and you'll feel like a badass!

Everything everything everything about us shows up in our bodies!

Hey you! Look at Me! I got this!

  1. Not fully commanding the space:

Have you ever had the experience of seeing someone so completely magnetic that they walk into a room and captivated everyone's attention? Angelina Jolie or Oprah come to mind for me. They couldn't hide in the back of a room if they tried, their presence permeates any place they are. Now, we aren't all Oprah or Angelina Jolie but we can all develop this quality of commanding the space that we have!Neither one of them started out with that captivating presence, they grew into it. That said, you have to command the space in order to rock the stage and sell yourself...therefore be able to sell ANYTHING from stage.

What's different about these people? They have captivating presence. They are completely grounded in this very moment, period. It is: physical alertness, emotional vibrancy, spiritual awareness and union with what is right here and now; it is vital connection to who we are and what we are sensing; it is an extreme, acute, tuned-in mindfulness to what is happening in that situation. If you are not playing in this space for yourself everywhere in you life, it will show up. Ok, what does all of that mean, anyway?! Here are some simple ways to understand at each of these:

***Physical Alertness-sensing and feeling the energetic around you and knowing on a cellular level what it going on surrounding you. Our bodies are a giant antenna and we pick things up from everywhere all of the time. Connect with what you pick up, you are picking it up for a reason.
***Emotional Vibrancy-don't go through life shutting down how you really feel! Everything you think and feel and know eminates from you so feel and show it! Be excited and joyful to be right where you are, wherever you are. Life and every situation you find yourself in is a gift!
***Spiritual awareness and union-the all encompassing connection and communion with the all that is, inside and outside.
***All of this contributes to the vital connection and mindfulness needed to rock a room...and your life.

If you've been struggling with the same self-sabotaging behaviors keeping you from the things you yearn for:  the answer isn't just in your attitudes...OR your mindset...it's in your body....

Willingness to be fully seen

    1. Not willing to be fully seen.

This one is a profound one. Many of us have things happen in our lives, very often intense and painful things, that teach us to be neither seen nor heard. We learn to shrink into the background or to become so loud and overpowering that nobody can see our authentic selves. While these might appear contradictory, they serve the same purpose, they hide true vulnerability. Hiding our vulnerability keeps us from being full seen.

While this served a purpose at one time, keeping our psyches safe from further pain, there inevitably reaches a point where it stops serving a purpose and starts sabotaging us from showing up fully for ourselves and our lives. This sabotages us from having the lives and the businesses we want. It's a vicious cycle, one that needs to be broken to be able to have a these things. It needs to be broken to have that Presence that will convince an audience to listen to us. It's our own buying of who we are before anyone else will buy from us or buy our point of view.

Here's the cold, hard truth about that: if we aren't willing to be fully seen, people will not fully trust us. If people don't trust us, they won't work with us. It's a simple universal truth. We all operate from an innate, deep place of intuition. We know if people don't trust themselves and there is no way we will trust someone who won't trust themselves.

Think about that person you watched give a presentation and they had killer content, but they were so boring or meek and mild that you didn't even notice the content. That person has unconsciously developed a way of being in plain sight but not being fully present or seen. You certainly didn't feel the urge to buy from this person, did you? The only reason you would buy what this person is selling is if you already knew you absolutely needed it. Now think about the person who comes into the networking meeting and is so loud they capitalize the entire room. What happens when you get into a conversation with this person? You can't wait to get out of it! In fact, sometimes you simply turn around and walk away, just to get away! You cannot see this person for who they really are either. However, instead of being invisible, they are hiding behind loudness. Neither of these let us connect and draw people in. Both of these are the opposite of Captivating PresenceTM.

I know what it's like to go invisible and not be seen. My childhood was unsafe in about every way imaginable and on top of that, my mother died when I was just shy of 10 years old. I perfected the art of not being present in my body to fix everybody else and to go along to get along. That said, I've spent the last 25 years perfecting the art of being COMPLETELY present in my body. So many people walk around completely OUT of their bodies: hiding who they truly are from themselves and (they think) from others. The truth is, everybody sees everything about us anyway, so we might as well own it, be it, rock it! How do you do this? It's an absolute owning of yourself, your story, your message and everything that you are, think, feel and Be. It is how you are perceived by others and it is a direct communication of how confident you are in yourself, how full out you are participating in your life and how connected you are to your surroundings, specifically any people you are interacting with, a crucial piece in any successful interaction...especially when speaking to groups and interacting with potential clients!

Many of us have a space of getting nervous before we go on stage or before we make a presentation. Even I do! It's very easy to
leave our bodies and go into old fears at this time. Here's one tip for not letting this happen: Right before I go on stage, I consciously drop all of me, all of my energy and attention down fully into me. I take all of my attention off of the audience and bring into down into me and through my feet into the ground. I create the feeling of being solid in and for myself. I always start anything I do before an audience this way. It assures that I am fully present for me, the current situation and the people I am serving in that situation. When I create this place of Captivating PresenceTM for myself first, I rock the room. When I don't, I lose it. It's that simple.

The FASTEST path to the love you want and the money you deserve runs right through your body. Tired of dead-end relationships? The answer is in your body. Wonder why every career you choose ends up being just blah or your efforts to build a thriving business never get you where you want to be? Your body will tell you why you are stuck.  Would you like to find out how to do these things for you?  Stay tuned...
